How To Wire A Countertop Electrical Outlet

Countertop Electrical Outlet – In most installations of electrical outlets, the plug is fed by a single circuit that has a wire for heat, a neutral wire and a ground wire. But sometimes the circuit may include a red cable.

Turn off the power to the circuit breakers of countertop electrical outlet that power cables red and black. Use a voltmeter to ensure that no current flows through them. Use the wire strippers to remove about 3/ 4 inch (1.9 cm) of insulation from each wire. Then fold the exposed ends of copper in the form of a hook to fit the screws on the terminal in the plug.

Connect the ground wire to the green ground screw on the top of the plug and adjust.  Secure the plug to the wall, install the cover plate and turn both breakers back. Test each countertop electrical outlet to ensure that both provide the correct amount of voltage.
